Myriad Genetics Lab Video Production: A Utah Case Study

July 2, 2026

Myriad Genetics is a precision medicine and genetic testing company in Salt Lake City. Their video needed to work for three very different audiences, including prospective employees, healthcare partners, and investors, each with different questions about what actually happens inside a genetics lab.

About the Client: Myriad Genetics

Myriad Genetics is a publicly traded precision medicine and genetic testing company headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Founded in 1991, they built their reputation on hereditary cancer testing; pioneering their BRCA1 and BRCA2 tests helped define the modern category. Since then, they have expanded into hereditary cancer risk, prostate cancer prognosis, prenatal screening, and pharmacogenomics guidance. They trade on NASDAQ as MYGN and are one of the largest biotech employers in Utah.

The audience for a Myriad Genetics video isn't the general public. A prospective employee wants to see the culture and the people. A healthcare provider wants to see the operational precision behind their patients' test results. An investor wants to see the infrastructure. One video, 3 minutes and 37 seconds, had to give all three something real.

The Challenge

Medical and lab video production is not an easy feat. Labs are functional environments built for research and clinical testing, not for filming. The equipment is sensitive. Active operations can't be interrupted. Lighting is typically mixed and unflattering on camera. And the access windows that make sense for the lab don't always make sense for a production schedule.

The multi-audience challenge was equally real. A video that leans too promotional loses credibility with scientific viewers. One that leans too clinical loses connection with the employee and investor audiences. Threading that balance in a single piece is the whole creative problem.

Tone was the third consideration. Genetic testing touches people's health, their families, and in some cases their most significant medical decisions. The video needed to carry that weight without becoming somber, and communicate capability without sounding like a commercial.

Our Approach to the Production

Eagle Wing built the video around three intercut threads: environmental portraits of the Myriad team, close coverage of the automated equipment running the testing workflow, and wider process footage that shows the lab as a whole. People carry the human story. Equipment carries the precision story. Process footage ties both to where they actually happen.

Creative Direction

Myriad team members speak on camera from inside the lab itself — not from a conference room, not against a neutral backdrop. The environment is part of the story, and the interviews are set up so the conversation feels connected to the work rather than staged separately from it. Myriad Genetics branding is visible throughout, so the video is identifiably theirs from any frame.

Equipment coverage gives the scientifically literate audience something specific to evaluate. We filmed QIAGEN sample prep instruments, automated pipetting systems, and other liquid handling equipment that Myriad actually uses — not generic lab props. That specificity is what separates credible lab video from stock-footage-adjacent lab video.

Filming and Equipment

Production worked inside the real Myriad Genetics facility during windows coordinated with facility management so the crew didn't interfere with live clinical operations. Supplementary LED lighting addressed the mixed color temperatures that lab fluorescents produce. Without it, the camera renders different equipment and surfaces in mismatched color casts that don't read as one cohesive space.

Post-Production and Editing

The team members' voices drive the edit. Equipment and process footage plays in support of what they're saying, not as a separate layer the interview has to compete with. When a team member's sentence begins over an equipment shot and lands on their face, the two pieces of information arrive together — the lab context reinforces the person, and the person gives meaning to the lab.

Color grading corrected the mixed temperatures from the lab environment: neutral tones on the equipment, slightly warmer tones on the people. The result keeps the professional register Myriad needs while making the human elements feel warmer than the room around them.

The Result

Myriad Genetics received a 3:37 video for their careers page, clinical and institutional partner communications, investor materials, and internal use. Each audience finds what they came for because the film was built around real people doing real work — not around a generic idea of what a biotech company should look like on camera.

For Eagle Wing, this is the reference case study for medical and lab video production in Utah. A completed engagement with one of the most recognized biotech names headquartered in Salt Lake City establishes credibility with prospects across the state's medical and life science sector.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to produce a medical or lab video for a company like Myriad Genetics? - A medical or lab video production for an enterprise biotech or life science client typically runs six to twelve weeks from creative kickoff to final delivery. The timeline includes creative direction, coordination with facility management and communications teams for lab access, one to two shoot days depending on scope, and an edit and revision cycle. Enterprise clients with regulated laboratory environments often require additional coordination time upfront, which is scoped into the project plan.
  • Do you film inside working laboratory environments? - Yes. Working labs (like the Myriad Genetics facility featured in this case study) produce visual texture that no set build can replicate. Production coordinates with facility management around access windows that do not interfere with active clinical testing or research operations, and the crew uses equipment and lighting choices designed for sensitive lab environments. For regulated laboratories that handle patient sample material, additional restrictions on what can be filmed and when are worked into the coverage plan.
  • What kinds of medical and lab clients do you produce for in Utah? - Biotech and life science companies including major precision medicine and genetic testing organizations, medical device manufacturers, contract research organizations, clinical testing labs, hospital systems, medical facilities, and early-stage medical technology startups. In Utah specifically, we produce for clients across the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake City (where Myriad Genetics and several other major biotech employers are headquartered), West Valley City, Draper, Lehi, and Provo.
  • What types of medical and lab video do you produce? - Facility and lab tour videos, biotech and life science brand films, recruitment and culture videos (like the Myriad Genetics project), medical product and equipment demos, explainer and process videos, investor pitch content, and trade show and conference content. Most enterprise engagements start with one primary asset that gets edited down into multiple deliverables for different placements and audiences.
  • Can this production style adapt to my medical or life science brand? - Yes. The approach that worked for Myriad Genetics is designed to work across the medical and life science vertical: real laboratory environments, team members on camera, technical accuracy in equipment and workflow coverage, and a clean modern visual register that reads as credible to both scientifically literate and general audiences. The framework adapts to biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, clinical research, hospital systems, and medical technology startups.
