Filming in Park City: Main Street to the Ridgeline
Park City packs a lot of looks into a small town. Historic Main Street gives you mining-era storefronts, string lights, and restaurant interiors that already look cinematic at dusk. The McPolin Farm barn at the entrance to town is one of the most recognizable images in Utah, and the Utah Olympic Park adds ski jumps and bobsled track for anything with an athletic edge. Kimball Junction and the Canyons Village base area cover modern retail, lodging, and conference venues.
Above town, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain deliver the ridgelines, lifts, and powder that most clients picture when they say "Park City," and the surrounding trails turn green and wildflower-heavy by July. The catch is that the best light, the best snow, and the biggest crowds tend to show up together. We scout the shot list in advance, pick angles that avoid lift lines, and schedule exteriors for early morning so the mountain looks as good on screen as it does in the brochure.

Planning a Shoot Around Park City's Seasons
In Park City, the calendar shapes the video more than almost anywhere else in Utah. Winter, roughly December through mid-April, is peak season for resort and lifestyle work, but it is also peak demand for lodging, parking, and venues, so shoots need to be booked early and kept compact. Summer opens up hiking, mountain biking, outdoor weddings, and festival-style events, with long evenings and softer light on the ridges.
The quiet stretch in between, known locally as mud season, is the period from the mid-April resort closings to about Memorial Day when trails are wet and many businesses close for part of the spring. Trail footage suffers, but interiors come out ahead: restaurants, hotels, and offices are easier to book, crowds are gone, and a shoot that would fight for space in February can run on a relaxed schedule. For a hospitality campaign, that makes mud season a good window for the interiors, with the exteriors saved for the season the campaign is actually selling.
Permits & Filming Rules
Permits and Resort Rules in Park City
Park City's permit process needs real lead time. Outdoor filming inside city limits that affects the public, such as closing a sidewalk or needing police support, requires a city film permit, and a complete application is due at least 21 days before the first shoot day. The package includes an $80 application fee, a hold harmless form, a certificate of insurance, an operations plan, a site map of exterior shots, and permission letters from neighbors or landowners involved. We start that paperwork the week a shoot is booked.
Just outside city limits, including Kimball Junction and much of the Snyderville Basin, Summit County treats commercial filming as a special event that needs its own permit, and any business filming there must first hold a Summit County commercial business license. The resorts are private land with their own rules. Deer Valley and Park City Mountain both prohibit drones unless the resort grants written authorization, and filming on the mountain in general means working out terms with the resort first. National forest land beyond the resorts can require a Forest Service permit, so we map every location to its landowner early.
