Permits & Filming Rules
Permits, Resorts, and Airspace in Ogden
If the shoot is at your own plant, office, or storefront, the owner's permission is usually all it takes. Public locations are where the paperwork starts. Ogden City requires a film permit for any project on city property or on UDOT property inside city limits, and the application comes with conditions: a certificate of insurance filed at least a week ahead, a noise ordinance variance if the shoot uses amplified sound, and sometimes a police presence for traffic or crowds. We file that paperwork during pre-production so the permit is in hand well before the shoot.
The mountains bring their own landlords. Snowbasin and Powder Mountain are private resorts, so filming there means working out terms with the resort. Much of Ogden Canyon and the land around Pineview Reservoir is national forest, which can require a permit from the U.S. Forest Service. We work out who owns each location before a shot goes on the list, and we request each approval for you.
Drone shots need the most care in Ogden. Hill Air Force Base is a no-drone zone, and flying over it without authorization can bring heavy fines and criminal prosecution. Ogden-Hinckley Airport, on the southwest side of the city, sits in controlled airspace, so any drone flight nearby needs FAA authorization first. Every aerial shot on your storyboard gets checked against those limits before the shoot, not on the day.
