Efficient Inventory Management: SupplySight Promo Video

September 19, 2024

SupplySight is R.S. Hughes' inventory management program. It gives industrial businesses real-time control over their supply chain, so they always know what they have on hand and when to reorder. Eagle Wing Productions produced a 34-second promotional video that makes the case for the program in the time it takes to scroll past it.

About the Client: SupplySight by R.S. Hughes

SupplySight is an inventory management program from R.S. Hughes, one of North America's largest industrial supply distributors. The program gives businesses real-time visibility into their inventory: live stock levels, usage tracking, and reorder timing that keeps teams from running out of the supplies they depend on to operate.

The audience for the program is a purchasing manager, operations lead, or plant manager who has been managing inventory reactively, ordering more only after something runs low. According to R.S. Hughes, customers typically save 20 to 30 percent with the program by ordering only what they need, when they need it, rather than overstocking to avoid shortages. SupplySight is built to close that gap.

The Challenge

R.S. Hughes needed a promotional video that made the value of an inventory management program clear to a busy, practical audience in well under a minute. Inventory software is not a subject that sells itself on excitement. The video had to communicate a real operational benefit quickly, without turning into a feature walkthrough that a plant manager would click away from.

The second challenge was tone. The buyer works in an industrial environment, not a boardroom. A polished corporate video would have felt disconnected from the warehouses and shop floors where the program actually gets used. The piece needed to look like it belonged in that world.

Our Approach to the Production

We built the video around a single, tight message delivered through on-screen text over industrial footage: manage your inventory, spend only what you need, save with the program. No voiceover, no narration to sit through. A viewer gets the entire value proposition whether the sound is on or off, which is exactly how most people watch a promotional video on a phone or a trade show screen.

The footage stays in the world the buyer recognizes: warehouse aisles stacked with inventory, a R.S. Hughes team member working the floor, and close industrial detail. We shot it in high-contrast black and white with red accents pulled from the SupplySight branding, so the piece reads as serious and industrial rather than soft or corporate. The look does part of the selling before a single word registers.

The Result

R.S. Hughes received a 34-second promotional video that works on their website, in sales conversations with new accounts, at trade shows, and in digital placements aimed at operations and purchasing audiences. It closes on a clear next step, inviting the viewer to connect with a SupplySight specialist, so the video does more than explain the program: it points to the conversation R.S. Hughes wants to have.

For Eagle Wing, the project is a case study in making a practical B2B service feel worth a viewer's attention. A short, silent-first promo, built in the visual language of the industry it serves, does more for an inventory program than a longer, more explanatory video ever could.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long should a promotional video for a B2B software or program be? - For a top-of-funnel promotional video aimed at a busy professional audience, shorter is usually better. The SupplySight video runs 34 seconds, which is long enough to deliver a clear value proposition and a call to action, and short enough to hold attention on social feeds, trade show loops, and website placements. Longer explainer and demo videos have their place later in the funnel, but the first touch works best when it is fast.
  • Do promotional videos need a voiceover? - No. The SupplySight video uses on-screen text over footage with no voiceover, which is a deliberate choice for a B2B promotional video. Most promotional videos are watched with the sound off on phones, in feeds, and on trade show screens, so a silent-first design that delivers the full message visually reaches more of the audience than a voiceover-dependent cut would.
  • Can you produce video for a technical or industrial B2B audience? - Yes. Industrial and technical B2B audiences respond to video that looks like it belongs in their world. For the SupplySight project, that meant shooting in real warehouse and shop-floor environments in a high-contrast industrial style, rather than using generic corporate or stock footage. Matching the visual language of the buyer's environment is part of what makes a B2B promotional video credible.
  • What can a short promotional video be used for? - A single short promotional video can serve multiple placements: a website hero or product-page asset, a sales conversation starter, a trade show loop, and a paid social or digital ad. The SupplySight video was built to work across all of these from one master cut, which is why it was designed to communicate fully with the sound off and to close on a clear call to action.
  • How does a case study video differ from a product demo? - A promotional video like the SupplySight piece is designed to create interest and drive a next step, not to teach a prospect how the product works. It leads with the outcome (in this case, the savings and the operational benefit) and closes with an invitation to talk to a specialist. A product demo comes later in the sales process, once the prospect has already decided they want to know more.
